What is Therapy?

Life greets us at the door with unbounded challenge. As we grow, we develop ways to tackle these challenges and navigate the ever-evolving worlds we live in. Our hard work and perseverance are often rewarded with triumph and achievement, but not without a fair share of pain and discomfort. It’s a trade we are willing to make, until we are not.

What if we keep trying more and more, and gain less and less? What if fulfillment constantly evades us despite our best efforts? What if we are barraged by painful emotions, frustrating setbacks, or a constant feeling of being “stuck?” This is when the hope and prospect of change starts to emerge, and when therapy enters the scene.

Therapy is not meant to alter your personhood. It is not meant to be the “magic bullet” that fixes everything. Therapy is meant to help you gain valuable insights into the challenges you face, how they have come about, and make meaningful change towards a more value-based and fulfilling life. It is a daunting process that asks for vulnerability, uncertainty, and a willingness to sit with substantial discomfort. Though hardly an enticing proposition at first glance, the potential for growth, success, and ability to thrive is truly limitless.

Instead of fighting your thoughts and emotions, ACT helps you make space for them — so they no longer control your life. With guidance, you'll reconnect with your values and take powerful steps toward the life you truly want.
